Deal with the Devil

Sir Georg Solti led the Orchestra, men of the Chorus, and soloist Siegfried Jerusalem in Liszt's Faust Symphony in January 1986.

London Records

Composers have long been fascinated with the folk legend of Doctor Faustus, in which he made a deal with the devil, sacrificing his soul in exchange for worldly knowledge and pleasure. Berlioz, Liszt, and Wagner all explore the legend in works conducted by former principal guest conductor Claudio Abbado, along with music directors Fritz Reiner and Sir Georg Solti.
