Remembering Lois Schaefer

Lois Schaefer was the Chicago Symphony Orchestra's assistant principal flute from 1951 until 1954.

The Chicago Symphony Orchestra family honors the memory of Lois Schaefer (1924–2020), who served as assistant principal flute from 1951 until 1954. She later was principal flute of the New York City Opera Orchestra and longtime flute and principal piccolo of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Boston Pops Orchestra.

Schaefer is featured as first-chair flute in one of the latest releases on CSOtv, performing under the baton of former music director and guest conductor Désiré Defauw in works by Gretry, Fauré, and Schumann!
